The term "artificial" is used because the glaze contains no
ash.
Instead, its 14 ingredients serve to create the properties and behaviour
of an ash glaze.
Smooth white stoneware 
 high-fired to Cone9 with an artificial ash glaze applied over a gold pigment. When the resultant, entirely random, crazing of the glaze has fully developed, it is highlighted with ink.  | |
